IBS Healing Journey - Juicing Cabbage

Did you know that IBS affects twice as many women than men?

IBS, or Irritable Bowel Syndrome, is a digestive disorder that affects the large intestines and can cause serious abdominal pain and discomfort. Common symptoms are inflammation, diarrhea, bloating, abdominal pain, irritation, gas and constipation. Lifestyle and diet are big contributors so IBS can get trigger as a result of: stress, anxiety, food allergies, candida overgrowth, not properly chewing and a diet high in processed foods.

IBS can be awful to live with, so one of the first steps is to uncover food sensitivities and to reduce stress. Once these irritants have been removed or reduced from your diet and lifestyle, you may want to consider cleansing your gut with cabbage juice. Yes, cabbage juice will start the healing process.

This is because raw cabbage juice is excellent for healing and nourishing the lining of the stomach and overall digestive system. Cabbage contains the amino acid l-glutamine, which is excellent for rebuilding and repairing our intestinal walls. Glutamine keeps the digestive system functioning optimally. 

Raw cabbage also contains sulphur and chlorine. Together these substances will deeply cleanse the mucous membranes of the stomach and intestines. This cleansing effect happens when consuming raw cabbage juice, not in it's cooked state. Raw cabbage juice will also help with constipation because it has mild laxative effect. I suggest starting slow to find the right amount of juice to aid your unique bodies natural healing process. 

Juicing cabbage:

Start by using half a cabbage or more. You can sweeten your juice by adding some apple, carrot or pineapple, otherwise it may taste a bit bland.

Caution: Drinking too much cabbage juice in one go may cause bloating and gas, due to sulphur reacting with our gut bacteria. You may want to avoid drinking more than 4 ounces of juice at a time, a shot glass full will do! 

If you are healing IBS or simply strengthening your gut lining, I suggest starting slow and then working your way to several cabbage juice shots a day over the course of two weeks.
